My Story

My name is Chivoarn Lorn. I was born on July 17, 1993 in Kampong Thom Province in Cambodia. I lived with my grandmother after the death of my parents when I was very young. It is assumed that my parents died of AIDS.
I had a normal rural Cambodian life in Kampong Thom until I was in grade 4 (about 10 years old).  About that time my brother and I became very ill and were hospitalized for three months in a hospital in the capital city, Phnom Penh.
After receiving treatment in the hospital, my brother and I went to live at New Hope for Cambodian Children as my  grandmother was too old to care for us. My grandmother died in 2013.
Although I was living with my brother, I was lonely being away from home. I started to draw to relieve my loneliness. I put one of my first drawings on the wall next to my bed. It was a picture of a beautiful woman and it would help me sleep and feel less alone.
The founders of NHCC noticed my talent and provided me with paper and pens so I could keep drawing.

All of my art is drawn on plain white paper with a black ink ball point pen. A large piece can take up to two months to complete.

My art fills my life with peace. I am most happy when immersed in my art and sharing it with others.
